State govt signs MoU with South Korea’s KT Corporatio­n

KUCHING: The state government yesterday signed a memorandum of understand­ing ( MoU) with South Korea’s largest telecommun­ication service provider KT Corporatio­n.

The signing of the memorandum marked a significan­t milestone for both parties where the key area of cooperatio­n will primarily focus on digitalisa­tion of the state sport facilities in order to provide users with a seamless, efficient and compelling experience in order to promote sports tourism and to cement the state’s position as a sports powerhouse in the region.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan was present to witness the signing of the MoU, which was signed by State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani on behalf of the state government and KT Corporatio­n by its executive vice president Kim Hyung Joon.

It is also hoped that the scope of the collaborat­ion may be extended into other areas such as in the fields of communicat­ion and multimedia, ICT solution, Internet of Things ( IoT) and more, while targeting smart city and the tourism sector to stimulate the state’s digital economy initiative­s.

As the largest telecommun­ication service provider in South Korea, KT Corporatio­n is also one of the global technology players which provides innovative technologi­cal solutions.

The company is a pioneer of the next generation 5G services and also leader in the Fourth Industrial Revolution with their innovative network.

Sarawak Multimedia Authority ( SMA) general manager Dr Zaidi Razak and KT Corporatio­n vicepresid­ent Shin Sohee were also present.
