DAP assemblyman seeks allocations from state govt

-

MIRI: Democratic Action Party ( DAP) assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon has called on the Barisan Nasional ( BN) state government to provide Pakatan Harapan ( PH) assemblypersons with development allocations.

The Pujut assemblyman said now that PH has taken over the federal government, the state should change its policy to include PH areas.

“For example in 2017, I know every BN assemblyperson received RM5 million, while we as the opposition at that time did not get anything,” he said of BN's Rural Transformation Project ( RTP) funds. Therefore, since PH will give allocation to opposition areas, I urge Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to administer the same policy to give allocation to all areas regardless of the political ideology,” Dr Ting said after inspecting conditions at Jalan Piasau on Monday.

On Sunday, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had said the PH government would provide funds for infrastructure development in opposition areas.

However, he had said the PH government would not provide allocations for opposition assemblypersons in Johor.

On Jalan Piasau, Dr Ting called on the Miri City Council ( MCC) to ensure its construction adhered to set standards.

“I do not want to accuse but I have received complaints from road users in which some ( parts) of the road are not up to the standard that should be observed and the excuse of poor road quality due to not enough funding is not acceptable.

“This road just opened less than two months ago and the council spent RM880,000 for 750 metres of road and it already posed trouble to road users from the day it opened as it was uneven, and this particular hole has been here since a couple of days ago. As we can see, the tar is very thin and I urge the engineering department of the council to study this matter because new roads should not be like this and this is really dangerous,” he stressed.
