SIBU: This year’s Ramadan bazaar at Sibu Town Square Phase II will offer more selection of food, drinks and other items across its 173 stalls.

The bazaar, which will open tomorrow and run ti l l June 12 – from 1pm to 8pm daily – is jointly operated by the Ramadan Bazaar Committee and Sibu Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Youth.

According to Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee, the Nangka state constituency service centre would facilitate the rental of 40 canopies on the site of the bazaar. Moreover, the centre would also subsidise half of the costs for amenities such as water and electricity supply, and waste management.

“From the 173 stalls this year, 13 are selling grilled food items. A few stalls are selling merchandise items like clothing.

“A surau will also be provided there,” he told reporters after briefing all the 173 traders at Sibu Muslim Welfare Trust Board ( Lakis) hall here yesterday.

Touching on food preparation and handling, Dr Annuar – also Nangka assemblyman – called upon the traders to uphold strict hygiene practices, pointing out that a good level of cleanliness would help attract customers to their stalls and this in turn, would ensure repeat business.

“Ensure the food is properly covered. The stalls should also be attractive to attract food lovers,” he said.

The briefing was also attended by Sibu Stall Operators Association chairman Hussin Salim and Sibu PBB Youth representative Abang Hisham Abang Hashim.
