Dr Teo’s committee to resolve community-related issues
MIRI: Miri MP Dr Michael Teo yesterday announced the activation of his working committee, made up mostly of young professionals, to kickstart effective service in his constituency.
He appointed Voon Shiak Ni, who is PKR national women vice- chief and Pakatan Harapan ( PH) national women chief for Sarawak affairs, as his political secretary and to manage the working committee and his service centre to seek short and long term solutions on issues affecting the community.
Voon said their first task was to create as many WhatsApp groups as possible and to receive public complaints.
She said the working committee would work out people- friendly approaches that included having town hall meetings with the people as well as setting up a counter at PKR service centre at the Miri Waterfront which opens from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
“We do not want to highlight every problem through the media, we want them to be solved through proper channels, we welcome constructive criticisms from the public and let us know where we need to improve,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dr Teo said among the issues Miri PKR was trying to resolve in Miri City were related to water supply, electrical supply, squatters and health services.
Inaugural members of the working committee are Michelle Teo, a social science graduate from Australia; Wong Yie Sing holder

of a master’s degree in Human Resources; Steve Teo a graduate in business administration from Australia; David Hii a graduate in Science; and grassroots leaders Peter Abong, Korina Mang and Phillip Asry.
“We will recruit more as and when necessary to ensure an efficient service system for the people,” said Voon yesterday.
The centre will create community neighbourhood groups and crime watch groups in as many residential estates as possible in the city, adopting the approach in Kuching which has proven effective in connecting the people to their elected representatives, local government agencies and the police.
She said it had always been the approach by PKR to work and to cooperate with the local government and agencies ‘ because our priority is to get things resolved and solved for the people’.
“The people of Miri have given PKR Miri and Pakatan Harapan the mandate and the people are our bosses. Our job is to serve our bosses,” she pointed out.
