25 UCTS students receive Toh Li Hua Foundation sponsorships
SIBU: Twenty-five undergraduate and foundation programme students of University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) have received education sponsorships under Toh Li Hua Foundation.
Hock Peng Organisation chairman and managing director Datuk Toh Chiew Hock handed out the sponsorships during a presentation on Monday witnessed by UCTS deputy vicechancellor (academics) Prof Dato Dr Sabarudin Mohd.
The sponsorship was introduced in 2016 by Toh Li Hua Foundation, set up by Hock Peng Organisation.
Applicants are assessed by the board of trustees chaired by Datuk Toh Chiew Hock, based on the students’ academic achievements and financial needs.
Speaking at the event yesterday, Toh said the scholarships were meant to aid needy Sarawak students in pursuing tertiary education at the UCTS.
“The award is open to all UCTS Sarawakian students regardless of racial, cultural and religious backgrounds.”
The scholarship is also slated for potential students with good examination results (maintaining Cumulative Grade Point Average or CGPA of 2.5 and above every semester) but whose family incomes do not exceed RM3,000 per month, as well as the undergraduate students who achieve the ‘ UCTS Silver Leadership Excellent Awards’ (LEAd).
LEAd is a system of awarding points to students for their involvement in non- academic fields.
It is introduced to encourage them to play active roles in co- curricular activities as the knowledge and experience gained are crucial for students upon leaving UCTS.
