Headmaster regards teachers as educators, guardians to students
SARIKEI: Teachers play the role of educators and guardians to all school-going children.
Hence, it is not too much to regard teachers as second parents to their pupils or students, said headmaster of SK St Anne, Joseph Wong Tee Ann, when officiating at the school’s Teacher’s Day celebration yesterday.
He described contributions of teachers to the community as invaluable, given that they transform illiterate children into knowledgeable individuals or professionals.
Paying tribute to the school’s teachers, Wong said he was very proud to be part a team which had been acknowledged for its excellent performance in both academics and co- curricular activities.
Due to the commitment and dedication of the teachers coupled with the cooperation extended by parents and the school management board, St Anne had all this while been consistent in achieving impressive results in UPSR examinations, sports and co- curricular activities, he pointed out.
Citing an example, he said the school improved in the School Average Grade (GPS) in UPSR by 0.15 from 2.33 in 2016 to 2.18 last year and emerged among the best schools in the state.
He pointed out that in both years, the school had 11 straight As scorers and for this year’s UPSR, the school had raised the GPS target to 1.98, overall passing rate to 94.24 per cent and 16 straight As scorers.
The school’s recent achievement in sports and co- curricular activities include being declared champions in Sarikei Division level dance competition; Eureka; choral speaking; district-level action song and poetry recitation and first runners-up in districtlevel football, story- telling and netball competitions.
The celebration witnessed the cutting of Teacher’s Day cake and presentation of certificates of appreciation and incentives to Primary Six teachers.
At the same time, the school bid farewell to an outgoing teacher Adeline Dewy, who is going on transfer to nearby SK Abang Haji Matahir.
Among those present were treasurer of School Management Board, Datin Mary Masing, Parent-Teacher Association chairman Hamidi Jelani and senior assistants.
