MIRI: Communities in the interior of Baram have been asked to support schools in their areas.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said it is crucial for parents in particular to support school activities and programmes.

“No matter whether your children study at the school or not, please make it a point to attend or get involved in the school activities and programmes such as this athletics meet, gotong- royong, and academic and co- curricular award presentations,” he said at SK Morek’s annual athletics meet on Tuesday.

“Your attendance and involvement in such activities and programmes will be the motivating factor for the students, teachers, and the school to do better despite facing and having inadequate infrastructure, and teaching and learning facilities.”

He called on parents to encourage their children to excel not only academically only but also in co- curricular activities.

“Academics and co- curricular activities cannot be separated and must go hand-in- hand together. They add value to the performance and achievement of the students,” he said.

On government allocations now that Pakatan Harapan is the government at federal level, Dennis said the Barisan Nasional state government would still meet the needs of the people.

“Don’t worry. You still have the state government to meet the needs of the people and to implement the much- needed socioeconomic development projects and activities.

“The state government will be looking after and using its own resources to provide for the people and to implement socioeconomic development projects that will benefit both the state and the people,” he said.
