‘No need to call Shahrir, Isa Samad’
KUALA LUMPUR: The newlyformed Council of Eminent Persons will not call upon former Felda chairmen Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad and Tan Sri Shahrir Samad to give an explanation on issues surrounding the plantation body, says Tun Daim Zainuddin.
“Not necessary. We already called their officers and board of directors. We had a complete picture,” the council chairman told a press conference at his office here yesterday.
Earlier, he met National Felda Settlers’ Children Association (Anak) Aliman.
The council was also briefed by Felda’s former director- general, Datuk Hanapi Suhada, Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd Chairman, Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim and FELCRA Bhd CEO, Zulkarnain Md Eusope.
Daim said, over the past six days, his council had 40 meetings and met 50 individuals from different backgrounds, namely senior government officers, government-linked companies, non-governmental organisations chairman Mazlan and the corporate sector.
“We talked and discussed several topics, among others toll, FELDA, FELCRA, East Coast Railway Link ( ECRL) and the High Speed Rail,” he added.
On the status of fugitive businessman Jho Low who is linked to the 1MDB scandal, Daim said the council was aware of his whereabouts.
“I hope he will come back and assist us if he thinks he is innocent. The rule is simple, innocent until proven guilty,” he said. — Bernama
