Hope Place Kuching goes on charity work to upper Baram

KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching will begin a new project called ‘Giving Hope, Sharing Love No.1 (2018)’ from June 14-17.

Its founder Kelvin Wan said 35 units of 4WD vehicles have registered for the project as volunteers to go to a Penan settlement in upper Baram.

“The breakdown of vehicles that have signed up are as follows: Kuching (14units), Sibu ( 3 units) Miri (4 units) and Labuan ( 2 units). Neighbouri­ng Brunei has also volunteere­d with 12 units of 4WD vehicles for this project”.

“Suddenly ‘Giving Hope, Sharing Love No.1’ has become an internatio­nal charity work,” said Kelvin through his press statement yesterday.

He revealed that the convoy will be led by Dr Ling Tung King from Miri.

“To date we have more than 70 volunteers joining us on this project comprising three doctors, one dentist and 4 nurses from the Sarawak General Hospital, 3 dentists from Sandakan while the Sarawak Nursing Profession­al Associatio­n (SNPA) will provide us with 8 nurses.

“Currently we are still short of hairdresse­rs to join the trip. If any hairdresse­rs are willing to join us as volunteers, please contact Hope place Kuching,” he said.

Kelvin revealed that all volunteers are to gather at Hope Place Kuching by 3am morning on June 14.

“We will depart by 4am in a convoy and will start the journey to Miri. We will stay overnight in Miri. On Jun 15 at 5am, the convoy will depart from Miri to Ulu Baram.”
