Mirians flock to Ramadan bazaar at stadium

-

MIRI: Ramadan bazaars are always the focus of food hunters every fasting month and in this regard, the one at the stadium here is definitely a food galore.

The Miri Stadium Ramadan bazaar is among the most popular in the city, with almost 100 stalls. It attracts both the locals and the Bruneians.

“It is a usual sight – the bazaars are filled with people, especially on the first day of the fasting month. For this year, I see there are more food choices and more stalls than last year.

“In terms of price, some are selling at higher prices than other stalls selling the same thing. My advice is to spend wisely because we as consumers have the right to choose and must avoid wastage,” said local resident Mohd Aliff Idzwan Abdullah when met by The Borneo Post yesterday.

Meanwhile, Wong Yu Boon, 32, said buying food at Miri Stadium could not be any easier – with great selection that could fit not only any appetite, but also any budget.

“Not only Muslims go to Ramadan bazaars, non-Muslims like me go there too because the choices are endless and the prices are reasonable.

“The parking spaces are also available around the stadium, but one needs to look hard for it especially during peak hours because of the crowd – many people come here as early as 3pm,” he said.

For ‘Satay Warisan Muz’ seller Rubyana Abdul Rahman, who has been selling satays at the stadium’s Ramadan bazaar since 2013, it is one of the ways to gain extra incomes.

“Such great response from the shoppers encourages many small entrepreneurs to also provide satisfactory services to the thousands of visitors through our food.

“Based on our previous experience, we would usually sell about 4,000- 4,500 pieces of satays per day. Our price range never changes,” she said, adding her satays are priced at RM0.70 apiece for chicken, RM0.80 apiece for beef, and RM1 apiece for lamb.
