Third leg of Go Bald campaign to be held in Sibu tomorrow

-

MIRI: The third leg of the monthlong Go Bald fundraising campaign will be held at Delta Mall, Sibu tomorrow (May 20) starting 11am.

Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) president Jocelyn Hee said after Kuching and Miri, SCCS is anticipating more supporters to either have their heads shaved or pledge donations to help cancer- stricken children and their families.

“Go Bald was started 10 years ago by parents of children suffering from cancer in a bid to help other parents with a similar experience. The objective is to raise awareness of and pledge emotional support to families battling childhood cancer in Sarawak.

“Over the 10 years, we have witnessed the Go Bald campaign contribute an average of 60 per cent to our annual expenses of RM1.5 million. We have served more than 1,100 families to date, built two halfway homes – in Kuching in 2013 and Miri in 2016, which have served more than 200 families and have a full-time staff team of nine people to serve the increasing families each year, with the aim of providing quality and consistent, care and support,” she said.

Hee said SCCS also plans to support and work closely with other childhood cancer support groups in Malaysia and abroad.

“Last year, we went to New Delhi, India to visit one of their children’s cancer support NGOs (non-governmental organisation) and had signed a Memorandum of Meeting ( MoM) with them. It is hoped that through this, we are able to share resources and best practices with each other to improve our services to better help more families battling childhood cancer,” said Hee.

The fi nal stop for Go Bald 2018 will be in Bintulu on May 27 at Times Square Megamall.
