Crocs team manager wants floodlights fixed ASAP

-

KUCHING: Sarawak team manager Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed is urging the Sarawak Stadium Corporation to repair the floodlights at Stadium Negeri in Petra Jaya immediately to enable night matches to be played there.

In view of the lighting problem at the stadium, Mahyan said the Premier League match between Sarawak and Johor Darul Ta’zim II on May 22 had been shifted to the opponent’s den at Stadium Majlis Perbandaran Pasir Gudang.

“As the P remier L eague continues in the fasting month ( Ramadan), we have to play late at night.

“Our problem now is that we cannot use the Stadium Negeri until the lights are repaired.

“We can move the match to the Sarawak Stadium but the condition of the field there have deteriorated following the hosting of numerous events including football competitions,” added Mahyan.

He said Sarawak may have to play their another home fixture on June 1 against UiTM FC away at Stadium UiTM Shah Alam if the problem still persists.

He added that the Football Association of Sarawak ( FAS) would have to fork out more for the ‘extra’ away matches.

“Flying the team to Pasir Gudang (on May 22) and then Shah Alam (June 1) will be costly and it will put a dent in the Football Association of Sarawak’s coffers,” noted Mahyan.

In this aspect, the legendary Ngap Sayot coach hoped that Sarawak Stadium Corporation would take a serious view of the problem so that Sarawak can play their home matches again.

Furthermore, as it is Sarawak’s mission to become a sports powerhouse, the condition of all sports facilities must be given the top priority.
