Jony and Chong bag first wins
KUCHING: On a fine day of racing, Jony Abas claimed his first win in Class A of the May Series of the Repsol Go Kart Clone Racing Series at the Serapi Race Track at KM 8, Jalan Palma Indah, of f Jalan Matang last Sunday.
Jony, who started the 30-lap race from third on the grid, was the first to cross the finish line ahead of Lim Ong Sian and Khairul Ariffin.
The win earned Jony 100 points and he accumulated 287 points to close the gap on overall leader Khairul to only five points while Lim is in overall third with 273 points.
Nicky Orrelius was fourth followed by Azzra Izzwan and Alexander Marvin Manzes in fifth and sixth respectively.
In Class B, Henry Chong also celebrated his first win of the series to collect 100 points. He is now fourth overall with 189 points.
Hanif Arif grabbed second spot, followed by series leader Chen Kuoyang in third place while Hansel Matthew Than finished fourth and newcomer Kon Jew Chung fifth.
Despite losing the race, Chen still lead the overall standings with 292 points, with Hanif in second ( 285 points) and Hansel third (273 points).
Kon, who collected 86 points is fifth overall.
This event organised by the Serapi Go Karting Club was the first four- stroke go kart racing series in Sarawak and it will run from March to October.
The series work on a points collection system - race and win points.
There will be one race every month and at the end of the series, the racer with the highest points will be crowned champion.
The winner’s name will be engraved on the Repsol Cup and photo will be displayed on the Repsol Wall of Champions.
The other series are scheduled on June 23-24, July 14-15, Aug 11-12, Sept 15-16 and Oct 13-14.
The event sponsor is Ghee Hua Co Sdn Bhd, the distributor of Repsol Lubricants products in Sarawak while the race director is Dr Abner Jerip.
