Make good on all GE14 pledges, promises, PH MPs told

-

KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Central Youth chief Michael Tiang doubts that Pakatan Harapan (PH)’s pledges of returning Sarawak’s rights can be denied by PH Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen alone.

He recalled that in its election manifesto, PH offered Sarawakians that should they manage to become the government of the day, they would review the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including increasing the oil royalty to 20 per cent and to give 50 per cent of taxed collected from Sarawak back to state.

He regarded these ‘clearly as promises set in stone by PH for the people of Sarawak’.

“However in recent press conferences, PH Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen repeatedly declared that the such ‘deal’ – including the return of Sarawak’s rights – was no longer valid on the ground that the Sarawak government failed to sign the so-called ‘New Deal Agreement’ with PH before polling day.

“I would like to remind him (Chong) that as a Sarawakian MP, he is duty-bound to find ways through the power in Putrajaya to fulfil PH’s pledges for Sarawak; not attaching conditions onto the pledges made during GE14 (14th general election),” said Tiang in a statement issued yesterday.

Tiang also reminded all PH MPs in Sarawak that the time has come for them to turn the votes that they received on polling day, into actions towards fulfilling their pledges to Sarawakians.
