MIRI: District scout commissioners in Region 5 (Nothern Sarawak including Belaga) need to set a realistically high work performance for all their activities in their respective districts to remain relevant.
Region 5 commissioner Empari Hong said such high achievement is necessary to spur more youths to join the scouts movement and undergo the necessary training and activities to move up to higher levels.
“ADC - assistant district commissioners must set realistic targets, for example, having at least two teachers successfully complete the ‘manikayu” training – or scout leadership training – during their two-year appointment period and aim to hold higher post at national level,” said Hong yesterday during the presentation of appointment letters to 32 ADC for Miri and Subis districts.
Also present were the Sea Scout Sarawak commissioner Ikhwan Abdul Wahab and Miri and Subis district commissioners Nur Izzatie Nadia Subri and Bakhtiar Abdul Azid respectively.
During a question and answer session after the ceremony, Hong assured that every effort is made to ensure that Region 5 is active in organising activities from local up to regional or international level.
“On the school level, the headquarters has authorised qualified teachers/individuals to endorse achievements for badges’ activities,” he said.
Nur Izzatie who also spoke said among the activities carried out for Miri District this year were family day on June 24, courses and workshops like first aid, safety and health besides scouts festival and appreciation dinner.
