Minister hopes welfare programmes continue
KUCHING: Sarawak hopes that all the welfare programmes linked to the federal agencies will continue to be run under the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led government.
In stating this, Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah conveys her congratulations to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the latter’s appointment as the federal Minister of Women and Family Development.
“For us at state level, our stand is clear on this – we support the government in power and we would work together to serve the people, our clients who need attention from the welfare support system,” Fatimah told reporters at ‘Sumbangsih Kuih Raya 2018’ event in the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex yesterday.
Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus was also present.
According to Fatimah, Sarawak needs the welfare system to function. Citing her ministry as an example, Fatimah said its target groups comprised mainly those under the lowincome bracket, senior citizens and single mothers.
It is recorded that as at March this year, the state registered 56,000 individuals as recipients of the Welfare Department’s monthly assistance.
“I hope that Dr Wan Azizah would strive to empower women in both economy and decision-making positions. I also hope that both of us could work together and be in line to achieve a common interest in serving the people,” said Fatimah.
A total of 8,000 packets of ‘kuih raya’ (cakes) were distributed to 11 agencies including the Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Prisons Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Civil Defence Department, and Road Transport Department.
