Ministry conducts checks on Sibu’s Ramadan bazaars

-

SIBU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism will inspect all Ramadan bazaars here.

Its Sibu chief Roslee Maslie said this is to ensure traders are clearly displaying their prices.

“All the Ramadan bazaars here will be inspected. Failure to display price tags for goods sold constitutes an offence under Order 3(1) of the Price Control Order (Indication of Price by Retailer) 1993,” he said yesterday.

“Upon conviction, an individual can be fined up to RM50,000 or compounded up to RM25,000, whereas companies can be fined up to RM100,000 or compounded up to RM50,000.”

On Friday, ministry personnel inspected 43 traders at a Ramadan bazaar and found traders were complying with the law.

On another matter, Roslee said the ministry had acted on eight cases here this year for holding sales without notice.

The ministry also confiscated goods worth RM3,620.20.

The retailers had flouted Regulation 3(1) Trade Descriptions (Cheap Sale Price) (Amendment) 2010, Trade Descriptions Act 2011, by carrying out sales without forwarding a written notice to the controller of trade.

Those wishing to report any price hike of essential items or unhealthy business practices can call 084-329202 or 084-335622.
