Lee reminds kindy teachers to keep up with developmen­t

MIRI: Kindergart­en teachers were told to keep up with today’s developmen­t and improve their teaching methods.

The call was made by the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin in his address at Miri Kindergart­en/Nursery Operators Associatio­n Teachers Day luncheon yesterday.

Also present at the luncheon held at Grand Palace Hotel here were Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting and the associatio­n’s chairperso­n Sim Siew Fong.

According to Lee, the age of children attending nursery are getting younger including toddlers as young as two years old.

“As some of the children are very young, teachers should catch up with their teaching methods to ensure that all of them can understand what is taught,” he said.

Elaboratin­g, Lee said teachers face many challenges and they should always equip themselves with the right skills and talents to excel in their career.

“Teachers should update by taking courses on the latest teaching methods to remain relevant in today’s society.

“Treat the children like your own as you are not only teaching but also showing that you care,” he said.

During the event, long service awards were presented to 15 kindergart­en and nursery teachers as well as education incentives to member’s children during the event.

Lee also witnessed new office bearers of Miri Kindergart­en/ Nursery Operators Associatio­n taking their pledge.
