Dr Teo determined to improve health services in Miri

MIRI: After successful­ly retaining the Miri seat during the 14th general election (GE14), Dr Michael Teo is determined to upgrade the public health infrastruc­ture and further improve health services here.

Speaking to the media during a visit to Miri Polyclinic yesterday, Dr Teo said as a start he would like to see an end to the congestion at the clinic which had been happening for the last 20 years.

“Miri Polyclinic is the biggest outpatient polyclinic in Miri, dealing with 1,000 patients each day.

“Besides being congested with patients, another big issue faced by the clinic is lack of parking space, including for the staff.”

latest condition at the polyclinic before preparing a proposal to the Pakatan Harapan ( PH) federal government.

“To solve the polyclinic problem, we need total cooperatio­n from everybody including the Sarawak government.”

Being a doctor, he said the issues related to health were very close to his heart.

On the medical equipment issue at the polyclinic, he said he would give his best to solve the problem as soon as possible.

“I think the effort to acquire additional or new equipment for the Miri Polyclinic should not be a problem as it can be done soon.”

Thus, he said it is important for everybody to work together to quickly bring an end to the predicamen­ts faced by the patients as well as the staff in the polyclinic.

In addition to that, he said he would also conduct similar visits to the Mother and Child Health Clinic at Jalan Temenggong Datuk Oyong Lawai Jau, Tudan Polyclinic as well as Miri Hospital.

For Miri Hospital, he has made an appointmen­t with the hospital director Dr Jack Wong to visit the hospital next week.

Present during the visit were Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) national women vice- chief Voon Shiak Ni and the entourage from PKR Miri branch.
