Council of Eminent Persons briefed by more top officials

KUALA LUMPUR: The Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) tasked with advising the government on economic and financial matters yesterday resumed its marathon meetings with top officials of government agencies and key organisati­ons here.

In the line-up were Finance Ministry’s deputy secretaryg­eneral ( Investment) Datuk Asri Hamidon and Government Investment Company Division ( MKD) under secretary Datin Rashidah Mohd Sies.

Petronas president and group chief executive officer ( CEO) Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin as well as Inland Revenue Board CEO Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah also briefed the CEP.

Also on the list was Petrol Dealers Associatio­n president Datuk Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz.

On May 12, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the formation of the CEP to help the new Pakatan Harapan government fulfil its 100day pledge for the people.

Members of the CEP are former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas president and CEO Tan Sri Hassan Merican, business tycoon Robert Kuok and economist Dr Jomo Kwame Sundaram.

The CEP also has two committees under its purview, namely the Institutio­nal Reforms Committee and the committee looking into the 1Malaysia Developmen­t Berhad ( 1MDB) scandal.
