Duo charged with rape, gang robbery of teenage girl

KUCHING: Two men were charged in the Sessions Court here yesterday with committing, among other offences, gang robbery and rape against a 17-year- old girl.

Mohamad Apendi Shah Puzan, 32, was charged with raping the victim at a house in Kenyalang Park here on May 16 at 1.30pm.

He is charged under Section 376(2)( b) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between 10 and 30 years, and whipping if convicted.

Mohamad Apendi was also charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substance and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for possessing a knife at the same time and place.

The charge carries a jail term of between five and 10 years, and whipping upon conviction.

The second accused, Mohd Norsaidfud­din Jaffry, 24, was charged with committing gang robbery at the same time and place against the victim by taking her mobile phone.

He faces up to 20 years in jail and whipping if found guilty under Section 395 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same Code.

Mohd Norsaidfud­din was also charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code with disposing of the stolen mobile phone, and faces up to seven years’ imprisonme­nt and a fi ne, or both, if convicted.

He also faces a third charge under Section 8(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substance and Offences Weapons Act 1958, punishable under Section 6 (1) of the same Act, for being in the company of another person possessing an offensive weapon.

Both were denied bail and ordered to be remanded in prison pending trial on June 11.
