State Police starts ‘Ops Selamat’ today

KUCHING: The Sarawak Police Contingent is conducting a 15day ‘Ops Selamat’ for the festive season starting today ( May 25).

The operation involves some 850 personnel from all branches throughout the state to ensure the safety of road users and homes left vacant during the ‘ balik kampung’ season.

The targets are accident prone ( black spot) areas and criminal hotspot areas where break- ins usually occur.

The operation is based on the ‘ Total Enforcemen­t’ method to ensure all road users are extra careful while on the roads this upcoming festive season, and safe home campaign for homes left vacant during the festive season.

The operation includes cooperatio­n with Sarawak Rivers Board and Sarawak Marine Department to focus on safety for those travelling by boats to achieve zero accident.

The state police request public co- operation for a safe and smooth journey home.

Road users are advised to ensure that the vehicle is in good condition before starting the journey and having a second driver for long distance travel.

Home owners are advised to install additional security at the main door, turning on the lights when leaving the house, and ensuring all doors, windows and gates are locked before leaving the house.
