S4S hopes PH govt will implement Referendum Act

-

MIRI: The Sarawak For Sarawakians ( S4S) movement is reminding the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government of the need to implement the Referendum Act soonest, preferably by this year.

Erick Chin, one of the S4S founders, believes that the top leaders in PH know better about the importance of the Referendum Act which lets the administration give power to the people in an effort to build a more robust system of democratic governance.

“S4S really hopes that the PH government will make the proposed Referendum Act a reality.”

Chin further said that S4S had launched a signature campaign from September 16 to December 31, 2015 to file a petition on the Referendum Act which aimed to urge the ruling government to implement the act, during which they collected over 260,000 signatures from Sarawakians above 21 years old.

Thus, S4S puts its high hope on PH leaders to pass the Act since they had also given positive feedback to the proposal.

“It is indeed good to note that the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has put his concern on Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63).

“As the PH federal government is giving priority to the democratic process, I hope that they will see the need to implement the Referendum Act, thus making Malaysia a truly democratic country.”
