Staff of Fleet Management bid farewell to two retiring colleagues

-

KAPIT: Staff of Fleet Management ( Mechanical Workshop) of the Public Works Department here bade farewell to two of their colleagues – Galau Dana and Reynold Jarraw – who have retired.

Galau of Rumah Achan at KM5 JalanSelirik joined the service as a daily paid worker in 1978 after completing Form 5 at SMK Kapit.

“My salary then was RM6.13 per day, and I was absorbed into the monthly scheme in 1995. My parents couldn’t afford to support my further studies so I had to work.

“I have decided to call it quits at 58 years old after devoting all my entire productive years to serve the government. My immediate plan is to take it easy and look after my grandchildren. I have four children and my eldest, a girl, is a teacher at SMK Kapit, while my second and third sons are with the private sector. My youngest daughter has just completed her degree course.”

Reynold, meanwhile, joined the service a year earlier than Galau.

“Looking back, it was 41 years ago that I joined the civil service as an apprentice (daily paid staff). Although the salary was small but the purchasing power was there. A cup of coffee was just RM0.20 while a plate of kampua mee was only RM0.30 and a kilogramme of sugar, RM0.20. We managed to survive.”

Officer-In- charge of Fleet Management Patrick Ajang wished them a happy retirement and good health.
