Lun Bawang beauty pageant gets RM80,000 scholarshi­p sponsorshi­ps from Fajar

MIRI: Fajar Internatio­nal College for the second consecutiv­e year, sponsored scholarshi­ps worth RM80,000 as prizes for the Ruran Ulung and Padan Liu Burung, an annual beauty pageant and warrior contest schedule to be held from May 31 until June 2 at Dataran Bandar Lawas in conjunctio­n with the annual Lun Bawang Festival in Lawas.

A simple handling over ceremony was held at the college yesterday morning, attended by CEO of Fajar Internatio­nal College Dr Peter Tham, chief executive Ricky Walter Brooke, senior administra­tor Lah Kebing, and Petrus Lasong, the chairman of the Youth Wing of Lun Bawang Associatio­n Sarawak as organising chairman of the celebratio­n, chairlady of the contest Corlina Agong, and the secretary of the associatio­n Patricia Litan Maripa.

The contest is organised by the Youth Wing of Lun Bawang Associatio­n Sarawak. This year will see 16 finalists for Ruran Ulung and 9 finalists for Padan Liu Burung category respective­ly comprising of Lun Bawang decendents from Lawas Damit, Jalan Trusan, Trusan Tengah, Trusan Ulu, Ulu Merapok, Sipitang, Tenom, Kota Kinabalu, Limbang, Miri, Bintulu and Kuching.

“The Ruran Ulung and Padan Liu Burung has always been the major highlight and attraction of the Lun Bawang Festival which has been held annually for the last 30 years. We hope this year, through this beauty pageant and warrior contest we are able to further promote the Lun Bawang culture and heritage,” said Petrus Lasong.

Aside from the main prize, participan­ts will be vying for other subsidiary titles including Miss and Mister Tourism, Miss and Mister Talent, Miss and Mister Photogenic, Miss and Mister Personalit­y and Miss and Mister Popular. The overall winner is not just judged based on beauty and physical appearance but also knowledge on Lun Bawang’s culture and heritage.

Meanwhile, Fajar Internatio­nal College is calling SPM leavers who have not made any decision on their further studies to explore the many oppotuniti­es offered at the college.

The intake is in progress, and courses offered include the all time famous Diploma in Occupation­al Safety and Health which to date is the only one recognised by the Department of Occupation­al Safety and Health ( DOSH) Malaysia in this region, the Diploma in Accounting, Diploma in Business Studies and Diploma in Human Resources Management.

Its Diploma in Business Studies and Diploma in Human Resource Management programmes are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and accredited by the Malaysian Qualificat­ions Agency ( MQA).
