Boys and girls kabaddi teams set for National Junior Championsh­ip

KUCHING: Sarawak will take part in both the boys and girls section of the National Junior Championsh­ip at Dewan Rakan Muda, Kapar, Selangor from May 26 to 27.

The tournament, organised by Persatuan Kabaddi Malaysia and hosted by Persatuan Kabaddi Negeri Selangor, has attracted eight boys teams and four girls teams.

Sarawak head coach Ganisan Punisamy said the main objective of sending the teams to the national meet was to give the players valuable exposure and experience so that they can replace the seniors.

“We are targeting for the boys to enter the semi-finals and the girls to finish among the top three but I am expecting a tough fight from the opponents especially from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur in both categories.

“It won’t be easy as the girls have only trained for a month and the boys a month and a half. We are fielding 10 players each for the boys and girls competitio­ns,” added Ganisan.

The boys team comprises Mohammad Ruszairrin Mohamed Rus t am, Muhammad Abu Hurairah Sharkawi, Nurhisyam Mohdi , Mohamad Luqman Hakim Mohamad Sazali, Noor Hadi Hazwan Ibrahim, Ikhmal Ruslan Mayah, Asyraf Haizan Ramle, Dzul Faiz Muhammad, Mohamad Azrey Roslan and Muhd Haziq Iskandar.

Members of the girls team are Fitriana Dewi Ahmad Nawawi Nur Alia Farisya Ahmad Nizam, Vanessa Jara Minggat, Nur Aqidah Husaini, Nur Fatiehah Hamdan, Arifahtul Nabilah Suffian, Angela Nibis, Siti Nor Hafizah Sukor, Siti Nur Bellyna Mohd Benjamin and Sharifah Nur Syafiqah Wan Hamidon.

The boys is coached by Haziq Iskandar while the girls team coach is Faizah Jasmi. Both teams depart to Kuala Lumpur today.
