S’wak boxing chief targets at least two gold medals in Sukma

KUCHING: Sarawak Amateur Boxing Associatio­n ( Saba) president Dato Rahman Lariwoo has high hopes for the state boxers and believes that they will do well at the 19th Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) in Perak from Sept 12 to 22.

He is confident that the ninemember team can deliver the goods as they were top boxers selected by the state coaches after series of selection trials.

“I am banking on the nine boxers to bring home at least two gold medals from Sukma.

“This is the best chance for them to prove their true quality and capability to bring honour to the state,” he said.

The boxers are Shafiq Hazziman Abdul lah Jefri ( 46kg- 49kg) , Wilson Berayin Sumbang (49.1kg52kg), Daeloniel Mcdelon Bong ( 52.1kg- 56kg), Muhammad Sufri Suardi (56.1kg- 60kg), Deanen Ului ( 60.1kg- 64kg), Chrisyuden Ripoh (64.1kg- 69kg), Mohammad Nawab Abdul Kader (69.1kg-75kg), Qairul Naim Jasman (75.1kg- 81kg) and Mohd Zainuddin Zailani ( 81.1kg91kg).

Mea nwhi l e , Mu h amma d Safiuddin Mohammad Ali (49.1kg52kg) will join the team as a reserve.

To ensure that the boxers achieve the two- gold target, Rahman said they would undergo intensive training at 1Div Camp Muara Tuang.

“We are also planning to bring them overseas for exposure/ training stints in the final phase of training before Sukma begins.

“The destinatio­ns have yet to be decided but Indonesia and Philippine­s are our top choices,” added Rahman.
