Not receiving rate bills: Request for waiver of default fee will not be entertained

Any request for waiver of default fee due to reason that ratepayers did not receive the 2018 Assessment Rate bills will not be entertained.

“The due date to pay the assessment rates for first half of 2018 is on Thursday ( May 31).

“Penalty of one per cent per month will be imposed after the due date,” said rating committee chairman Cr Julaihi Mohd in a press conference here yesterday.

According to Julaihi, year 2018 assessment rate bills have already been issued to all ratepayers, with the latest issued in March. For those who have yet to receive their bills can always check with the council.

“There is no excuse for ratepayers or property owners not receiving the bills, he said.

“They can obtain a copy of the bills from UTC counter at the ground floor of UTC building,” he added.

“If the ratepayers change the ownership of their properties or change the postal address for the assessment rates, they are advised to notify the Rating and Valuation Department, Miri City Council by showing a copy of the Sale and Purchase (SP) agreement or other supporting documents.

“This is to ensure that the assessment bills will reach the relevant person,” Julaihi said.

Meanwhile, to show appreciation and encourage ratepayers to pay, the council has come out with a new initiative.

“Ratepayers who pay assessment rates for the whole of 2018 with no outstanding amount are eligible to take part in a lucky draw,” he added.

The council will be giving away 79 items that include three motorcycles as grand prizes, ten bicycles, three handphones, three televisions, three units of air- conditioner, two units of washing machines and 55 other home appliances.

“To be eligible for the lucky draw, payment of assessment rates need to be done on or before Sept 31.

“The lucky draw will be a digital draw in October based on the property record in our system,” he added.
