MSU holds breaking-of-fast event with orphans, industry players

The Management & Science University (MSU) recently held a breaking- of-fast event with orphans and industry parrtners here on Tuesday in conjunctio­n with the holy month of Ramadan.

T h e occasion, which was attended by some 800 guests, was organised in line with the univer sit y ’ s efforts to inculcate a culture of showing gratitude while at the same time, distribute tithes and ‘Duit Raya’.

MSU president Tan Sri Datuk Wira Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid said the university holds the Ihya Ramadan Programme on an annual basis.

“This year’s programme see the implementa­tion of welfare actvities including the handing over of tithes, breaking of fast, ‘sahur’, tarawikh prayers, distributi­on of ‘ bubur lambuk’ and many more which involved the participat­ion of those from the university campus as well as the community nationwide,” he said when delivering his speech at the event.

He pointed out that among the main activities were the GPS Ramadan programme involving MSU medical students which were carried out at 11 selected locations in 11 states in the country as well as one in Bangalore, India.

“On the other hand, at global level, MSU also carried out the distributi­on of tithes and organised programmes in countries such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Syria, Palestine and Bosnia,” he added.

During the ceremony, Mohd Syukri presented tithe contributi­on and ‘ Duit Raya’ amounting to RM149,500 to 23 orphanages and welfare homes comprising 230 residents.

Each of these institutio­ns received tithe contributi­on of RM5,000 while the 230 residents received RM150 ‘ Duit Raya’ each.

Among the recipients were Rumah Kasih Harmoni Paya Jaras, Pusat Jagaan Baitus Sakinas Wal Mahabbah, Pusat Jagaan Nur Ekhwan Ku, Pertubuhan Al Khadeem ( Home of Hope Al Khaadem), Pertubuhan Amal dan Kebajikan Anak-anak Islam Tersisih Selangor ( PAKATS), Pertubuhan Kebajikan & Pendidikan Nur Kasih, Pusat Jagaan Nur Sakinah, Yayasan Al Amin, Pusat Jagaan Baitul Hidayah and Rumah Anak Yatim Rohingya Darul Aitam.

The handing over of tithe was one of the highlights of the Ihya Ramadan Programme 2018 as well as a long- standing tradition of the university in carrying out its commitment and responsibi­lity to the community.
