Swimmers, parents attend dialogue session on Elite Training Programme

Sarawak Elite Team swimmers, their parents and coaches now have a better understand­ing of each other and the Elite Training Swimming Programme following their first meeting recently.

In attendance were Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n ( SSC) chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee who also heads the Sarawak State Sports Council, Sarawak head coach Dieung Manggang, his assistant Raymond Chang and SSC coordinato­r for swimming Mohd Faizal Ibrahim.

Among the objectives of the meeting were to assist parents and swimmers gain a better understand­ing of the programme and provide the opportunit­y for the coaches to acknowledg­e the support of the parents towards the programme.

“The Elite Programme views parental support as an essential component of a swimmer’s success.

“Wi t h o u t t he supp o r t , contributi­ons and efforts from you ( parents), our swimmers will not be as successful as they are today. Thank you!,” said one of the coaches.

The ses sion began wi th an introducti­on of the Elite Programme to the parents and swimmers by Ong and Faizal which also highl ighted the benefits received by each group of swimmers. The coaches explained their responsibi­lities, expectatio­ns of the swimmers and the role that parents play within the Elite Programme in line with its long-term goal for success in Sukma 2020 and Sukma 2022.

Parents were also given the opportunit­y to raise questions and discuss issues during the Q & A session.

The morning was rounded up with reminders by the coaches on the importance of team spirit and the family aspect of the Elite Team.
