BINTULU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Bintulu chief Salihin Den has reminded consumers to keep receipts of their purchases for reference before the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is zero rated effective tomorrow (June 1).

He said by keeping the receipts now, it will help them to compare and check the prices in the receipts to ensure that no six per cent GST is charged after the implementation of the zero GST policy. , This, he added, will also help KPDNKK in ensuring traders comply with the new rule as the ministtry will mobilise its enforcement officers to monitor prices of goods.

Salihin said it is very important that consumers are aware that the goods and services which are now subjected to GST of six per cent will be reduced to zero per cent next month.

“The prices in the supermarket must be set to zero per cent GST by June 1,” he told reporters during an inspection on trading premises in conjunction with Gawai and Ops Catut 4.0 with his enforcement officers at Pasar Utama Bintulu yesterday.

He said that he was satisfied with the traders’ compliance level during the inspection. Apart from that, Salihin also warned traders to use the 50kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders which are meant for industrial consumers.

“Those who are still using the subsidised 14kg LPG cylinders are given 14 days to comply or action will be taken against them if they fail to do so,” he said.

At the same time, Salihin also assured consumers that the supply of essential items for Gawai Dayak celebration is sufficient and his men will monitor closely the prices on the ground.
