Supplement­ary bill to be tabled

PUTRAJAYA: A mini budget and supplement­ary bill for Federal government expenditur­e will be tabled in Parliament next month, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

The bill was necessary following the cost- centre revision made in government expenditur­e, as well as, fiscal adjustment measures undertaken to reduce the country’s debt that had ballooned to RM1 trillion under the previous government.

“There is a possibilit­y (of a mini budget) the supplement­ary bill will take into account all the variation including the different ministries that have been establishe­d,” he told press conference here yesterday.

Lim said the RM700 million Aidilfitri special assistance to 1.2 million Grade 41 and below civil servants as well as pensioners would also be included in the supplement­ary bill.

(the election) they will have to present a supplement­ary bill for all the extra expenditur­e that they had announced,” he explained.

Commenting on whether the government planned to sell part of its stake in Petronas to reduce Malaysia’s debt level, the finance minister said “the plan was not on the table at all”.

“It has not been put forward to the Federal government.

We are now addressing the costcentre (and not revenue- centre),” he added.
