Police urge Jamal to surrender, cooperate in investigations

KAJANG: The police are in the process of obtaining a warrant of arrest for Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos who has escaped from police custody and gone into hiding over the past six days to facilitate investigations in several cases involving the Sungai Besar UMNO division chief.

Selangor CID chief, SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the warrant of arrest was expected to be obtained yesterday.

He said the police were acting on the cases in accordance with the law, and not due to pressure from certain parties as alleged by Jamal.

“For now, there are six cases under investigation, as well as another three based on charges filed at the Ampang Puteri Hospital on May 25.

“We will continue to track him down as everyone is aware he has absconded when in fact, he should be cooperating with the police investigations,” he told reporters here yesterday after attending a ceremony to dispose of criminal case exhibits in the Kajang district, in conjunction with an anti- gambling operation codenamed ‘ Ops Dadu’ at the Bandar Baru Bangi police station.

Jamal, in a video clip distributed to the media yesterday claimed there was a planned effort by certain parties to direct the police to frame him at any cost.

On the disposal of the exhibits, Fadzil said they comprised 4,314 computers and 34 simulators seized in ‘Ops Dadu’ cases from 2016 to 2017 which have been approved by the Kajang Court to be disposed of, at the Bandar Baru Bangi police station,” he added.
