FIC sponsors RM22,000 in scholarshi­p to Bisaya beauty pageant

MIRI: Fajar Internatio­nal College recently sponsored education scholarshi­ps worth of RM22,000 as prizes for the Ratu Agak Babulang, an annual beauty pageant organised by the Sarawak Bisaya Associatio­n.

The pageant will be held from on June 8 at Kampung Batu Danau, Limbang, in conjunctio­n with the annual Babulang and Water Buffalo Racing Festival.

The top 3 winners of the Ratu Agak Babulang will receive, trophy, other prizes besides education scholarshi­p to further their studies at Fajar Internatio­nal College. The champion will receive RM15,000, fi rst runner-up RM10,000, and second runner-up RM7,000.

A simple handing over ceremony was held at Gymkana Club here on Wednesday. CEO of Fajar Internatio­nal College Dr Peter Tham handed over the mock cheque to Antonio Kahti Galis, the president of Sarawak Bisaya Associatio­n. Also present were Henry Madai, assistant secretary general of the associatio­n, and committee members from the Sarawak Bisaya Associatio­n Miri branch.

This year’s Babulang and Water Buffalo Racing Festival will witness the beauty contest at Kampung Batu Danau on June 8 and the Buffalo Race on June 9. A cultural night will also be held in the evening of June 9. The objective is to promote the Limbang Division as a tourist attraction.

Various performanc­es will be held throughout the festival, including traditiona­l lifestyle activities, selling of local handicraft­s and traditiona­l Bisaya food. The main attraction will be the Babulang Queen contest and water buffalo race events.

Meanwhile, Fajar Internatio­nal College is calling SPM leavers who have not made any decision on their further studies to explore the many oppotuniti­es offered at the college. Intake is in progress, and courses offered include the Diploma in Occupation­al Safety and Health which is the only one recognised by Department of Occupation­al Safety and Health ( DOSH) Malaysia in this region, the Diploma in Accounting, Diploma in Business Studies and Diploma in Human Resources Management.

Other programmes open for intake are the Diploma in Business Studies and Diploma in Human Resource Management. Both these programmes are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and accredited by the Malaysian Qualificat­ions Agency ( MQA).
