Sarawak lawn bowl squad for Sukma to be finalised after Hari Raya

KUCHING: The list of players for the Sarawak Sukma lawn bowls squad is expected to be finalised after Hari Raya Aidilfifit­ri.

Twelve athletes, including six female players will make the cut and represent the state at the 19th Sukma in Perak on Sept 12-22.

Team manager Abdillah Zain said they are still assessing the performanc­e of 14 shadow team athletes before making the final selection.

The male players concerned are Mohd Iskandar Zulkarnain Suka rdi , Abdul Rahma n Aminuddin, Mohammad Amirul Hafizi Jaffar, Mohd Azhar Samara, Muhammad Ramadhan Mohamad Jeffy, Haniz Nur Hakim Mohamad Helmi and Mohamad Fitri Afiq Jamsari.

Whereas the female athletes are Sh Shaza Nisrina Mumtaz Wan Jemudin, Jamiah Hasbi, Nur Fitrah Rosmadi, Nur Fitri Rosmadi, Nur Fithri Aisya Hamdin, Fatin Izzati Mohamad Nizamri and Nina Hairani Nor Mohammad.

“We are still in the process of making the final assessment of the athletes and will announce the names of the 12 athletes who will carry the state’s challenge in Sukma Perak after the Hari Raya Adilfitri celebratio­n.

“All 14 athletes are undergoing training camp in Labuan from May 16 to June 8 under the guidance of coach Zuraidi Puteh.

“They will also play friendly matches with Maksak Labuan and Sukma Labuan there,” he said.

On the team’s medal target in Perak, Abdillah said Sarawak are eyeing two gold medals in the Women’s Fours and Women’s Doubles.

In the Women’s Fours, Sarawak’s hope are pinned on the Sukma 2016 gold medallists Nur Fithri Yaani, Nur Fithri, Jamiah and Sh Syaza Nisrina Mumtaz.

As for the Women’s Doubles, Sarawak are placing their hopes again on Nur Fithri dan Sh Syaza Nisrina who won the bronze medal at the last Sukma in Sarawak.
