Domestic PPI down 0.8 pct in April 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: The Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production declined 0.8 per cent year-onyear (y-o-y) to 106.8 in April 2018.

In a statement yesterday, the Department of Statistics said sectors which registered a decrease during the period included agricultur­e, forestry and fishing (minus 6.8 per cent) and manufactur­ing (minus 2.0 per cent).

However, the PPI for the following sectors increased y-o-y -- mining (15.9 per cent), electricit­y and gas supply (1.5 per cent ) and water supply (1.1 per cent).

Meanwhile, the PPI for local production by stage of processing (SOP) also decreased 0.8 per cent y-o-y, led by the decline in the finished goods ( minus 2.6 per cent) and intermedia­te materials, supplies and components (minus 1.6 per cent), while crude materials for further processing rose by 3.7 per cent.

On a month-to-month (m-o-m) basis, the PPI for local production rose 0.5 per cent due to the increases in mining (8.5 per cent) and water supply (1.1 per cent) sectors.

Meanwhile, indices which declined m- o- m included agricultur­e, forestry and fishing (minus1.6percent), manufactur­ing ( minus 0.2 per cent) and the electricit­y and gas supply index (minus 0.1 per cent).

The PPI for local production by SOP increased by 0.5 per cent m-o-m due to positive changes in the index for crude materials for further processing (2.5 per cent) and intermedia­te materials, supplies and components (0.2 per cent).

However, finished goods registered a decrease of 0.5 per cent m-o-m. — Bernama
