Zero-GST ops to run till June 30, says KPDNKK Sibu chief

- June 3, 2018

SIBU: Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) continues to run inspection on commercial premises here to ensure that the operators comply with the directive to implement zero-per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST), which took effect on June 1.

According to KPDNKK Sibu chief Roslee Maslie, all nine premises that were inspected on Friday had converted the registration of GST on their sales and payment systems from six per cent to zero per cent.

The operation involved the officers checking around 300 items.

“The inspection is being carried out daily, at least until June 30, on retail shops across Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau,” he said on Friday, noting that the prices of goods here were lower than those seen before June 1.

On price tags, Roslee observed that although items on the racks still displayed the old prices – those incorporating the old six-per cent GST – he assured consumers that these had been changed to zero-GST and would be displayed on the receipts.

On this, he said traders had been given until this June 30 to change all the price tags.

“If the price tags are not changed after June 30, notice under Section 21 of Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 will be issued,” he stressed.

In this regard, Roslee advised local consumers to take note of their purchase receipts and check if the six-per cent GST was still imposed, or if prices of goods were still the same as before June 1 – should they find these, they should report to the KPDNKK office here.
