RM9 mln for upgrading Masjid At Taqwa
MIRI: The state government has approved a RM9 million allocation for improvement works on Masjid At Taqwa here.
In this regard, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg says efforts to upgrade mosques are a collective responsibility of every Muslim.
“In Miri, ‘Alhamdullilah’ (praise to Allah) – whatever we can implement, we will implement. We will upgrade our mosque. I have approved RM9 million for us to maintain this mosque (At Taqwa) and make it more comfortable for Muslims here,” he spoke in officiating at the state-level Nuzul Al Quran event in Masjid At Taqwa on Thursday night.

It serves more than just being a centre of worship for the Muslims – it is also regularly used as the venue for many religious activities.
Adding on, Abang Johari said regardless of their number, Muslims in Sarawak could carry out their religious obligation of spreading the teachings of Islam in a more organised manner.
He described this as the responsibility of all.

On the Nuzul Al-Quran event, Abang Johari said it commemorated the moment when the words of the Quran were first revealed to Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H.
From thereon, it culminated into the Quran that all Muslims know of today.
In view of this, Abang Johari called upon all fellow Muslims to understand and practise the teachings written in the Holy Book of Islam.
“Read, understand and implement the teachings (in the Quran) in your daily routine – Insya Allah (God willing) the Muslims in Sarawak will be taken care of and we can carry out our daily lives smoothly,” he said.
The Nuzul Al-Quran event – themed ‘Muslim Kinship, Foundation of the Ummah (People)’ – commenced with the mass break-of-fast session, followed by Maghrib prayer and dinner.
Sarawak Mufti Datu Kipli Yassin then presented a talk on ‘Nuzul Al-Quran’ and after that, the congregation proceeded to performing Isya and tarawih prayers.
Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, and Sarawak Islamic Council chairman Datu Misnu Taha were present.
