Be part of UN’s #BeatPlasticPollution global challenge
KUCHING: Be part of the United Nations’ (UN) newest global challenge on social media to #BeatPlasticPollution, the theme for this year’s World Environment Day on June 5 with the tagline “If you can’t reuse it, refuse it”.
The game of tag is an innovative approach to the campaign that encourages people to give up singleuse plastics by opting for reusable and sustainable alternatives.
To take part in the challenge, choose a type of singleuse plastic that you are ready to give up. Share a selfie or video on social media showing yourself with the reusable or sustainable alternative that you are ready to embrace.
You then “tag” three friends, businesses or high-profile people to challenge them to do the same within 24 hours.
Remember to include the #BeatPlasticPollution hashtag and mention @UNEnvironment.
A growing number of celebrities and environmentalists are taking part in the challenge, including former California governor and Hollywood superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger, who pledged to terminate plastic spoons on Twitter.
“We all have to work very hard to make this a healthy environment, a great environment, and to save our oceans and save the planet,” said the staunch environmentalist in his video.
