Over 400 more members quit PRS
We are disappointed and have lost confidence in the party leadership under Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, which is self-centred. — Augustine Amin, PRS Tamin deputy chairman
SIBU: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) faced another round of mass resignations with over 400 members from its Tamin Division announcing their decision to leave the party yesterday.
PRS Tamin deputy chairman Augustine Amin said their decision to leave the party was prompted by the loss of confidence in the party’s leadership.
“We are disappointed and have lost confidence in the party leadership under Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, which is self-centred.
“Our action to leave the party is done voluntarily without any pressure from any quarters,” he said when met at Rumah Jangit, Sungai Igu, Tamin.
According to Augustine, PRS Tamin has unanimously called for Masing’s resignation as party president and to be accountable for the loss of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates fielded by PRS during the parliamentary election.
“We want Masing to resign as PRS president because of the mistake made by him with the self-centred oriented struggle, which caused the party to lose three seats,” he said.
As at press time, Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira could not be reached for any comment.
During the parliamentary election, PRS lost Julau, Selangau and Lubok Antu but managed to retain Sri Aman, Hulu Rajang, and Kanowit.
It was previously reported that over 300 PRS Kakus members had quit the party, but this was subsequently denied by PRS vicepresident Datuk John Sikie Tayai.
