Enhance ties with other races, Dayaks told
SRI AMAN: Members of the Dayak community were urged to foster stronger ties and enhance cooperation with other races in developing the state.
Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the strong ties among different races is the pillar towards better understanding with each other and the catalysts towards a harmonious and respected communities.
Harden, who is also the Simanggang assemblyman said this at an Gawai open house at his residence here.
“The unity that we are enjoying now should be preserved and festive celebration is a great platform for us to further nurture this by engaging friends from other races to enjoy and celebrate it together with us,” he said.
On another matter, Harden urged the younger generation to respect the elders, and at the same time to continue their tradition and culture despite the progressive development taking place in the state.
“Knowledge of the elders, especially about our race and culture, should be passed down to the younger generation, and we should fight to ensure that traditions will continue to be practised in the future,” he said.
Also present at the open house was Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Simanggang Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) women chief Ling Siew Hung and Temenggong Kuek Aik Seng.
More than 1,000 residents from around Sri Aman attended the open house.
