Jason Momoa quits ‘The Crow’ reboot

-

AFTER getting off to a tricky start, “The Crow” movie reboot has now hit another stumbling block. The film’s lead actor, Jason Momoa, and its director, Corin Hardy, have both quit the picture just five weeks before production was scheduled to start.

Jason Momoa confirmed the news in an Instagram post, saying: “I’ve waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O’Barr sorry to let you down I won’t on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can’t play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I’m ready when it’s right. Love u Corin aloha j”

Deadline reports that the “Game of Thrones” star and the director, Corin Hardy, pulled out of the production due to creative and financial differences with Samuel Hadida, whose Davis Films company owns the rights to the movie and is financing the project. With five weeks before filming was due to begin in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, the departures leave the production high and dry once again.

According to Deadline, the movie has already been thwarted by a previous walk-out from the director.

Sony Pictures slated the movie for an Oct 11, 2019 release, although Samuel Hadida had reportedly not managed to finalise a deal with the studio, seemingly hastening the departures of the movie’s lead actor and director.

Based on the graphic novel by James O’Barr, the original “The Crow” movie, directed by Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee, was released in 1994. The film tells the story of Eric Draven, a rock musician who is revived from the dead as “The Crow” to avenge his own death as well as the rape and murder of his fiancée.

After starring in HBO’s hit TV show “Game of Thrones,” Jason Momoa takes the title role in James Wan’s “Aquaman” movie, out Dec 21 in the USA.
