KUCHING: Sarawak PAS is looking towards the next state election which has to be held by 2021 and is hopeful that it could win at least one seat.

State PAS information chief Muhammad Afiq Mohd Khazar believed that Sarawakians, especially Malays, are now more matured in making political decisions.

He added that the growing support from the Malays in the state is why the party thinks that winning one seat in the next state election is a realistic target.

Afiq also noted that the performance of PAS in Sarawak during the recent General Election showed some improvement although the party failed to win any seat of the 11 seats it contested.

“We contested in five parliamentary seat namely Petra Jaya, Kota Samarahan, Sibuti, Batang Sadong and Batang Lupar and garnered a total of 10,500 votes from voters in Sarawak. This is a good sign as we think that PAS is now being accepted by Sarawakians,” he told reporters during a break of fast dinner hosted by the party at a restaurant here on Saturday.

Meanwhile during the dinner state PAS youth chief Arifiriazul Paijo said that the party will continue with their mission to become a strong opposition in the state.

“Our main objective is to fight for the development of Sarawak and its people. We want all Sarawakians to enjoy development and as opposition, we will be there to check the government with the people,” said Arifiriazul.

Also present during the dinner were state PAS deputy chairman Zulkif li Ramzi and Pas deputy Youth Secretary Hadi Amat.
