Robert Pattinson, Lily-Rose Depp join ‘The King’

-

HELMED by Australian director David Michôd of “Animal Kingdom,” the Netfl ix series will look at the lives of Henry IV and his pauper-to-prince successor, Henry V.

With Timothée Chalamet and Joel Edgerton already installed as Henry V and his loyal friend Falstaff respectively, Robert Pattinson and Lily-Rose Depp are among those joining “The King” as it begins production in the UK.

Pattinson joins as the heir to the French throne with Depp as his younger sister, the French princess and eventual English queen, Catherine.

Ben Mendelsohn (“Animal Kingdom,” “Rogue One”) plays Henry V’s father, King Henry IV, while Tom Glynn- Carney (“Dunkirk”) joins as Henry V’s rival Henry Percy, Thomasin McKenzie (“The Hobbit”) as Henry V’s sister Phillippa, and Sean Harris — of “MacBeth,” directed by Michôd’s compatriot Justin Kurzel — becomes William, a soldier in the King’s army.

Michôd wrote “The King” in collaboration with Edgerton, whose previous scripts have included those for “The Gift,” “The Rover,” and “Jane Got a Gun.”

In fact, “The Rover” was cowritten with Michôd, who went on to direct.

Pattinson starred in that movie, after breaking through as Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” ( 2005), and cementing his status by playing Edward Cullen in the “Twilight” saga ( 2008-2012.)

He has since been seen in David Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars,” the Werner Herzog dramatisation “Queen of the Desert,” Anton Corbijn’s “Life” and the Safdie brothers’ awardwinning crime thriller “Good Time.”

Model and actress Depp, daughter of French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis and US actor Johnny Depp, has appeared in two Kevin Smith movies, “Tusk” and “Yoga Hosers,” contributing three songs to the latter’s soundtrack along with co- star Harley Quinn Smith.

She appeared in 2016 Frenchlanguage historical drama “The Dancer,” for which she was nominated for Most Promising Actress at France’s prestigious César Awards. That same year she co- starred with Natalie Portman in pre-war drama “Planetarium.”

“The King” is expected to release in 2019. It is Michôd’s second feature for Netfl ix, following on from 2017 Afghan invasion drama and political satire “War Machine.” — Relaxnews
