Zero-rated GST an election promise fulfilled — Rep
MIRI: The federal Pakatan Harapan government has now fulfilled one of its 10 promises listed under its election manifesto – a zero-rated GST – three weeks after it took over Putrajaya.
Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon said the people were now relieved of the GST- burden with the prices of goods and services offered minus the 6 per cent GST.
“GST was one of major issues during the election.
“The people voted PH because they hated GST,” Dr Ting said during a visit to Boulevard Hypermarket at Imperial Mall here yesterday.
DAP Miri Youth chief Peter Hii and operation cum marketing manager of Boulevard Hypermarket and Departmental Store and Boulevard Shopping Complex Alan Lee Chee Leong were among those who accompanied Dr Ting during the visit.

“The zero-rated GST must now be adhered to by all businesses at least until Sept 1 when the SST takes over,” Dr Ting added after seeing first-hand items sold at the hypermarket, which are GST zerorated.
Lee, meanwhile, said all items sold at their three outlets (Imperial Mall, Boulevard Pujut and in Sabah) were already carrying zero per cent GST.
“Business is good and customers are spending more, especially during festive seasons, because of the zero-rated GST,” he said.
