MP calls for review on suspended phase of Sibu flood mitigation project

-

SIBU: Sibu MP Oscar Ling is calling for a review on the Sibu Flood Mitigation Plan Phase III, which has been suspended.

It is known that the project would cover Lanang Road – from the junction at Ek Dee Road to the town centre.

“I understand that the fund allocated for the project has been transferred to Kampong Dato Flow Mitigation Plan – with no known reasons,” he told reporters when met after attending ‘ buka puasa’ ( break- of- fast) at a local Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) member along Bandong Road here recently.

On the transfer of the project, Ling said he could not see any urgency for it, in that Kampong Dato is not affected by floods. Two weeks ago, the lower stretch of Lanang Road – the section not covered under Phase I and II of the flood mitigation plan – was hit by floods. On a separate subject, Ling said he had visited several local heads of federal government departments to better understand various issues at hand.

According to him, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government expects transparency in any awarding of projects.

“All projects must be awarded through open tenders,” he pointed out, adding that the PH government has already reviewed several projects implemented by the previous government under Barisan Nasional.

Moreover, he said the people’s confidence in the PH government is reflected in their prompt response to Tabung Harapan Malaysia ( THM) – a specially set-up fund meant to help the government reduce its massive debts.
