Our move for the good of party, SUPP Dudong tells Dr Sim

-

SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian seems to have not fully understood the recent press statement issued by five members of its Dudong branch calling for the resignation of secretary- general Datuk Sebastian Ting.

The call was made in view of SUPP’s dismal performance at the just concluded general election.

A spokesman for SUPP Dudong branch Dr Wong Chya Wei said all members of the branch, particularly the leaders, wanted to reflect the grassroots’ feeling following the party’s defeat.

“Our purpose is to arrest quickly the declining support (for the party) and to ensure that the party is moving ahead.

“We do have the party’s interests at heart.

“When the party president mentioned that we did this (asking for Ting’s resignation) for personal gain and interest, we do not really understand what he meant.

“Maybe he ( Dr Sim) can clarify this,” he told a press conference at his clinic here yesterday.

Dr Wong, who is assistant secretary of SUPP Dudong branch, denied having any personal agenda behind the call for the party secretary-general to resign.

“We are actually working for the good of the party,” he said.

He added that SUPP Dudong branch and the grassroots members in Sibu had all along been reflecting issues within the party itself to the party central.

“Unfortunately, they (issues) were never properly addressed by the party central.

“This has been going on for sometime.

“That’s why we issued the press statement so that the party central can take up our grievances and solve them within the party.

“The issues have been there since the secretary- general took office.

“He has not really made any effort to come to Sibu for our official functions.

“We all want to work very hard for the party, taking into account the dismal GE14 results.

“We are hoping that the party central and the leadership could give us better direction so that we, at the grassroots level, would know how to proceed,” Dr Wong added.
