Kampung Sadir folk want wooden bridges, footpaths repaired

-

KUCHING: The villagers of Kampung Sadir in Ulu Padawan near here are calling on the authorities to take action on their complaints about the poor conditions of wooden bridges and footpaths in their village.

Ketua Kaum Sagu Bakong and Democratic Action Party ( DAP) unit head Tiron Taha when met at ‘ Pesta Nyarok’ during the recent Gawai festival at Kampung Sadir, said the poor condition of the wooden bridges has been like that for ages.

DAP Mambong branch deputy chairman Sarjan Daik also learnt that some of the wooden bridges were replaced with bamboo ones as their repeated requests for the government to repair or build new ones have fallen on deaf ears.

“I was also brought to see the poor conditions of the footpaths in the village that were built in the 70’s and never upgraded or repaired by the relevant authorities,” he said in a press release yesterday.

Apart from complaints about the wooden bridges and footpaths, he added that both Sagu and Tiron also expressed their disappointment with the telephone signal reception in their village where only Celcom has the coverage but signal is weak.

With the new Pakatan Harapan-led federal government, both Sagu and Taha hoped to see the government coming in to help the villagers open up their lands for pepper planting as well as providing subsidies to improve the economy of the villagers.

In view of the villagers’ plight, Sarjan asked the authorities concerned to seriously look into the complaints for the betterment of Kampung Sadir folk.
