Good Samaritans deliver Aidilfitri aid to needy families

-

KUCHING: Three poor families at Kampung Rampangi here recently received contributions from a group of Good Samaritans in conjunction with the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Volunteer social worker Lim Chee Haw, who represented the Good Samaritans, handed over rice and other food items to the recipients at the home of 43-yearold Quatina Mohd Esa.

Apart from Quatina, the other identified recipients were Siti Khatijah, 44, and Abdul Manan Yacob, 60.

Lim said these recipients not only live in meagre conditions but also have respective health problems which restricted their job choices, therefore limiting them to earning a small income that is barely enough to support their families.

“I have lived in poverty and hardship before, and I understand the predicament they are going through especially with a special occasion such as Aidilftri coming soon.

“Thankfully, there are still caring people out there who symphatise with their situation. Though the donors are not of the same race and religion, they came up with some contributions to ease the recipients’ financial burden,” said Lim, a retired Marine Police personnel now devoted to charity work.

He thanked Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, a Mr Hii and Sandi Bunya from Jalan Matang, and other donors for their assistance in this latest charity act.

Lim, who can be contacted on 082-248153 or 016- 8070388, said he can also assist poor non-Muslim families in acquiring coffins for their departed family member during funeral service.

This is made possible through cash donations from Good Samaritans which are channeled to a coffin shop at Mile 3 1/ 2 here. Lim said the shop would then send over the coffin upon request to the eligible families.

So far, several coffins have been sent to poor families as far as Bau, Serian and Sri Aman. The latest recipient was a family from Sungai Apong who requested the coffin to be sent to the Sarawak General Hospital mortuary upon the death of a family member.

The other recipients were families at Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog at Mile 18 KuchingSerian Road, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 Kuching- Serian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.
