MIRI: The Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) has already made a decision on its place in the Barisan Nasional ( BN) coalition.

SUPP secretary- general Datuk Sebastian Ting said it was one of the issues discussed on the way forward after the parliamentary election during the party’s central working committee meeting on May 14.

“A decision was made. It will be presented to our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on June 12, during the S arawak BN meeting, as announced by secretary- general of Sarawak BN Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi,” Ting told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Rumours have been rife that Abang Johari, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) president, had told BN acting chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that PBB would quit the coalition.

However, PBB supreme council member Pandi Suhaili slammed the rumours as fake news saying Abang Johari had not met Zahid in the last few days.

Pandi added that the Chief Minister would discuss the issue with fellow component parties SUPP, Parti Rakyat Sarawak,

Meanwhile, on how lawyers from both sides of the political divide have decided to support the Sarawak government in facing the suit by Petroliam Nasional Berhad ( Petronas), Ting said such support is needed at this critical moment to show the unity of Sarawakians.

“I was touched and indeed, very happy to see so many lawyers, from both sides of political divide, coming together to defend and protect Sarawak, and in particular, our oil and gas resources,” he said.

Ting, who was also present at the meeting on Thursday between Abang Johari and Advocates Association of Sarawak members, praised those present for their love for Sarawak.

“They attended the meeting in Kuching on their own expense like air tickets and accommodation, as some of the lawyers came from outstation.

“More importantly, the president of Advocates Association of Sarawak Ranbir Singh Singha and his committee members should be congratulated for organising this historic dialogue with CM,” he added, pointing out the lawyers are doing it for free.
